“One Crazy Summer is a must read for anyone’s book list. It is heartwarming, realistic fiction that takes place in 1968. It is a truly elegant piece of well crafted literature.
The main characters are Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern. They are all sisters. Their mother, Cecile, abandoned them seven years ago, and now they are going to visit her for the first time. When they arrive they discover that their mother wants nothing to do with them and is a little off her rocker. She bans them from the kitchen, won’t cook, or explain the strange visitors. Then Cecile sends them to a summer camp run by Black Panthers. There world was about to spin in a whole new direction.
I strongly recommend “One Crazy Summer” for youth ages 9-12. The style of writing is easy to understand, yet leaves you guessing and wanting more. It is a spectacular summer read.
